PARKS
AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND COMMISSION
FROM: RICHARD D. SALA, CITY MANAGER
BY: MICHAEL SARGIS, PARKS AND
RECREATION DIRECTOR
DATE: JANUARY 9, 2007
SUBJECT:
The Parks and
Recreation Department is working on plans for North Lauderdale Days 2007. This year’s 44th Anniversary event
is planned for the weekend of Friday, April 27th through Saturday,
April 28th, 2007. Although we
are only in the early discussion stages, we are planning to hold some new
activities in the months of April and May in celebration of our City’s
Anniversary.
As in past years, N.L.
Days will feature 2 stages, (one on field 4 and one in the parking lot). The event will feature musical entertainment by
4 to 5 different groups, school groups and some community participation
including a firework show on Saturday evening.
The event is budgeted at $58,000 – with expenses estimated in the
following manner ($17,000 for music entertainment, $9,500 for fireworks, and
the balance for set-up, rides, games, performers, and staff costs). We will be sharing the final plans for North
Lauderdale Days 2007 with the Commission by early March.
One of the main segments
of North Lauderdale Days has been the wide variety of music that is offered
throughout the weekend. For the past 8+
years, the City has used Style Entertainment to provide the event music and
sound equipment. Style Entertainment is
used throughout
In addition, the
Department will be working with other groups to conduct various North
Lauderdale Days activities. These groups
include BSO, City’s Fire/Rescue, Multi-Cultural Committee, local Schools, Parks
and Recreation Board and other interested resident groups within the City.
RECOMMENDATION: The City Administration recommends Commission’s
consideration and approval of the following two resolutions:
1.
Resolution establishing North Lauderdale
Days 2007 as April 27 thru April 28, 2007.
2. Resolution authorizing
the City Manager to contract with Style Entertainment in an amount not to exceed
$17,000.00 for musical entertainment for North Lauderdale Days 2007.
