Subject: Purchase and Installation of a
Network Storage System
Recently, the Staff realized that network stored data is increasing at a
rate faster than expected. This data is
made up of records retention information which includes, document imaging,
email archives and daily business transactions.
Although growth was foreseen and a plan to manage it was developed, the
proposed solution was not scheduled for implementation until the first quarter
of FY 2008. Staff feels it would be
better to implement the proposed solution earlier due to increasing storage demands
and the anticipated new computer business system installation and conversion.
Although there are many storage solutions to choose from, the proposed solution
is a Network Storage System (System).
This System would provide the City with a scalable storage platform for
the next 3 – 5 years. There are many
advantages in selecting this type of Storage System over simply increasing server
disk capacity. The main purpose for this
System is to provide centralized, managed data storage; improved backup and
restore capability; improved disaster recovery capability; secure, segregated
archive files; user home directories; employee training databases and business system
file storage.
Staff has reviewed the City’s data storage needs and has evaluated many
types of network storage systems for functionality, compatibility and cost. As a result, Staff is recommending the
purchase of a System from Sencilo, at a cost not to exceed GSA pricing or $23,554. The particular System is unique and it our
understanding that Sencilo is the State’s sole distributor for this
product. This System is currently being
utilized by the cities of

similar, but different types of network storage systems. Funds for this project are available in the FY
2007 Adopted Budget (G/L 530-0801-519.51-26).
