CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE

WATER MANAGEMENT CONTROL DISTRICT

TO:                 Chairman and Supervisors

BY:                  Mike Shields, District Administrator

DATE:            January 9, 2007

SUBJECT:     Change Order Ratification – B.G. Katz Contract

As you may recall, the District contracted with B.G. Katz to remove debris from the canals as a result of Hurricane Wilma. This contract amount was set to be $350,000.

Shortly after the work commenced, the staff realized that there would be additional work required due to accessibility problems and a lower water table that exposed more debris.  Based upon this, staff authorized a change order for this additional debris removal.  We have had numerous conversations with the contractor over the amount of money owed to him for this additional work and although the contractor is requesting a larger amount; our staff could only justify and account for an additional $20,000.

Please be advised that the original contract price of $350,000 and the additional $20,000 are being submitted to the N.R.C.S. (Natural Resources Conservation Service) at a 75% reimbursement rate to the District.

Recommendation:

The District Administrator recommends the Board of Supervisors consideration and adoption of the attached resolution authorizing the ratification of the additional charge of $20,000 to B.G. Katz for additional work performed after Hurricane Wilma.
