Subject:           Computer Replacements Program for FY 2008

To enhance employee productivity and keep pace with rapidly changing technology, North Lauderdale, (like many entities) uses a technology computer replacement process for staff.  Under this process, most of the City computer equipment is replaced every 3 – 4 years, thus reducing hardware failures and maintenance cost while also maximizing staff efficiency.  Our FY 2008 computer replacement process calls for the following computer equipment related actions to replace our outdated equipment:

  • Purchase – 23 new City desktop computers and 3 laptops during the FY 2008 year, from Dell at a cost not to exceed $29,760.00 – Funding available in Information Technology Capital Account 5300801- 552180
  • Surplus – 12 older and outdated City computers (Exhibit “A”)
  • Re allocate – 3  laptops and 1 desktop to non-critical/training use (Exhibit “B”)

The purchase of these new computers will be staggered throughout the coming fiscal year to allow a smooth and seamless rotation of the new/old computer equipment.

Recommendation: The Administration recommends Commission consideration and approval of the attached Resolutions authorizing and directing the City Manager to:

  1. Purchase 26 replacement computers at expenditure not to exceed $29,760.00.

  1. Declare certain computers as listed in Exhibits "A", attached hereto, as surplus to the needs of the City due to the condition of the equipment or property and/or the current needs of the City; dispose of surplus computer equipment; directing the City Clerk to record this Resolution as authority for disposal of said property pursuant to Chapter 2, Article II, Section 2-36 of the City Code.
