WHEREAS,
the Broward County Diversity Advisory Council has provided, since its founding
in 1990 as the Broward County Multi-Ethnic Advisory Board, leadership in
diversity and inclusion; and,
WHEREAS,
the Broward County Diversity Advisory Council joined with numerous public and
private organizations in community partnership, since 2002, to acknowledge,
celebrate, value, embrace and respect Broward County’s documented diversity;
and,
WHEREAS, partnering agencies work together to improve
inter-ethnic relations, multi-ethnic dialogue, and inclusive economic, social
and political opportunities for each of Broward’s 1.8 million citizens; and,
WHEREAS,
Broward County is one of ten multi-culturally significant regions and markets
in the United States (Census Bureau, 2000); and,
WHEREAS,
Broward County has over 162 nations represented, and over 60 languages spoken
or known, by our students and their parents (The School Board of Broward
County); and,
WHEREAS, over the past 20 years, the
Broward County Diversity Advisory Council has helped Broward County recognize,
embrace and respect Broward’s rich diversity, moving the County closer to
becoming a “Culture of Inclusion” at every level of community life; and,
WHEREAS,
the Broward County Diversity Advisory Council issued its “First Report on the
State of Diversity and Inclusion in Broward County” during the month of
October, 2007;
WHEREAS,
the City of
NOW,
therefore, I, Jack Brady, Mayor of the City of North Lauderdale, by virtue
of the authority vested in me do hereby proclaim January, 2009, as
Broward County Diversity and Inclusive
Community Month
