In a previous report to the Commission on Sept.13, 2006, the City Engineer
assessed the air quality concerns in the City Hall and proposed various
recommendations. Most of these recommendations require additional routine
maintenance that would result in a more positive impact on the indoor air
quality of the building
These maintenance items included the coil cleaning and acid-washing of
the HVAC units at the City Hall to remove any de
In order to address the possible presence of a mold or fungal growth on any
window sills in the City Hall, we replaced any defective weather stripping
around the windows. Any sill that
appeared to have significant water damage was replaced under normal maintenance
procedures to prevent any accumulation of fungal material.
As indicated in the City Engineer’s report, in the event that any
interior surface fungal growth was visible that resulted in elevated indoor
fungal spore contractions, remediation work would be needed pursuant to the New
York City Departments Health Guidelines and the II CRC S520 Mold Remediation
Standard. We are pleased to state that we did not find any such evidence at the
City Hall and therefore, this remediation work is not necessary at this point.
Therefore, as of this date, all air quality enhancement recommendations
are in place and the project is complete.
