CITY OF

Mayor and City Commission

RE: FY 2006/07 Vehicles Purchases
As part of the City’s five
(5) year Capital Plan, the City staff is requesting the purchase of six (6) new
vehicles during the 2006/2007 fiscal year. These vehicles will be purchased
through the Florida Sheriff’s Association Bid # 06-14-0821 and assigned to the Public
Works/Utilities and Parks and Recreation Departments. Funding for this purchase will be provided
from the Vehicle Maintenance Internal Service Fund -501-3940-539-64-77.
As you may recall, from
the onset of the wall project, the City has been installing decorative lighting
along the sidewalks as the project progressed.
To date, the City has installed a total of 223 lights. Therefore, including the light poles and fixtures
installed in the municipal building parking lots and parks, there are a total
of 313 light poles that the staff currently has to maintain citywide. In the past, the City has contracted with
various electrical companies to utilize their equipment and service to maintain
these fixtures as well as install holiday decorations and public service announcements. As a result, the City has incurred a substantial
expense over the years without gaining any long lasting benefit by paying for
this equipment. Therefore, the Staff is requesting
to purchase a new bucket truck that will
enable us to maintain these fixtures in-house, install decorations, and to trim
trees in the parks and public right-of- ways.
The addition of this valuable and much needed piece of equipment to the
city’s fleet will undoubtedly pay for itself in a reasonable period of time by eliminating
the need to hire outside contractors for the work that can be handled in-house with
proper equipment.
As
a part of this Capital Plan, we will also be purchasing three vehicles to replace
the ones that have completed their usefulness to the City due to cost of upkeep,
age, and maintenance. In addition, we need to purchase a truck to replace the one
that was involved in an accident last year.
This vehicle was declared unusable by the insurance company and the City
has since received compensation for this vehicle. With the increase in staff, which commission
approved during this budget year, we will also need to add another truck to the
canal district operations to transport the additional personnel and equipment
as their responsibilities have expanded.
Once
the new vehicles have been received, we will bring back to the Commission a
list of vehicles and equipment that we recommend be declared surplus and sold
at an auction or disposed of through another means.
Listed
below is a list/associated details of the vehicles that will be purchased under
2006/2007 Fiscal Year Capital Plan.
