Village United Methodist Church Block Party

1001 SW 71 Avenue, North Lauderdale

 

APPLICANT: Village United Methodist Church

 

The Village United Methodist Church, located at 1001 SW 71 Avenue, is requesting permission to hold a special event featuring a Block Party.

 

This event will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 P.M., on the church grounds. There will be basic health education seminars, screenings and safety training as an outreach to the community.  Outdoor activities including children games, a concert, food, beverages and voter’s registration will be available.   Bathroom facilities will be available on site (see attached site plan).  The applicant has provided a letter of authorization from Mr. Brian Brookins of Riverside Christian Fellowship to utilize the parking facility at RCF during this event. Specific details of the proposed event are set forth in Attachment A, which is made a part of this report.

 

This request is being submitted for the City Commission’s approval in accordance with Section 6-28 of the City Code of Ordinances requiring the governing body to approve special events.

 

At this time, the applicant is confident that all permits/items necessary to conduct a safe and successful special event can be secured in a timely manner.  The applicant has submitted special detail requests to BSO and the Fire Department to insure proper coverage at the event.  City Commission’s approval will be subject to compliance with all City and County codes, including the conditions associated with the application, such as submission of an indemnity agreement and attaining certificates of insurance.

 

The applicant understands that under no circumstances would the City permit the event to proceed unless and until all applicable codes are met.  These codes must be met prior to the event’s opening and shall be continually adhered to while the event is open to the public. 

 

 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION

 

Based on the foregoing, it is recommended that the City Commission approve a motion authorizing this event subject to the following conditions:

 

1.                  Applying for and securing all applicable permits.

 

2.                  Conformance with all Public Safety and Fire Rescue requirements.

 

3.                  Fully executed indemnification/hold harmless agreement.

 

4.                  Adequate liability insurance of $1,000,000 provided by the Village United Methodist Church naming the City of North Lauderdale as an insured party.

 

5.                  That all other applicable codes of the City regarding special events shall be adhered to and the terms, conditions and provisions imposed by the City Commission and Staff shall be met and any costs and expenses occasioned by this event and caused to the City shall be paid for by the Applicant

 

If the Commission concurs with this request, the following motion is in order:

Motion to approve “Village United Methodist Church Block Party” to be held on Friday - June 27, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the church grounds located at 1001 SW 71 Avenue, subject to conditions outlined in staff memorandum.
