Subject:           Upcoming Utility Billing Ordinance/Operational Procedures Revisions

 

The current City Ordinance which addresses the utility billing operation was last revised in the 1990’s.  The City staff has been reviewing this ordinance and other operational procedures along with other municipalities and strongly suggests that changes to the ordinance and utility operations be made, which would bring it more in line with how other governments are currently operating in this area.  Some provisions that will be reviewed and revised are as follows:

 

Utility Billing Ordinances

  • Billing Cycle
  • Delinquent Accounts
  • Fees/Revenues
  • Turn on and offs

 

Utility Billing/Utility Operations

  • Methods of operation
  • Cost Savings
  • Payment options

 

Unless there is any objection by the Commission, staff will continue to work with the City Administration and the City Attorney’s office and will start the process of revising the ordinance and operational procedures. The appropriate recommendations and the associated revised ordinance will be presented to Commission for their consideration and approval in the June/July 2007 timeframe.
