Subject: Upgrade
of City’s Telephone System
The City’s current Capital
Improvement Program has $100,000 allocated for the replacement/upgrade of our
City telephone system. During the past
year, the staff has reviewed and analyzed a number of systems, several of which
far exceeded our $100,000 estimated allocation amount.
City’s current Telrad Phone System was purchased in the early 90’s and has
had some upgrades during the years. Over
the life span of this system we have only experienced minor problems and these
problems were always corrected in a very expedious manner by Digetel.net, the
company who handles the support and repairs of this system.
With having good
experiences with our current system and Digetel.net, we requested a quotation from
them for additional upgrades. Upon
review, we determined that their pricing was the most reasonable and will save the City a large
amount while giving us all the features the Commission and staff have been
looking for, such as a new voicemail system that would allow for paying bills
over the phone system after a software/equipment program that fits the City’s
needs is chosen, inter-connection of City off-site facilities such as the
Community Affairs Center, Parks facilities and the Fire Stations 34 and 44, and
the new voicemail system that would allow to transfer calls to cell
phones.
This major upgrade will
change all the existing equipment and a large number of the handsets and give
us the most current technology on the market for approximately $50,000 (see
attached letter from Digetel.net). The
funding for this project is allocated in the Information Technology fund,
#530-0801-519-64-10.
Recommendation
The City
Administration recommends Commission’s consideration and approval of the
attached resolution authorizing an expenditure of not more than $50,000
for the purchase of an upgraded City telephone system from Digetel.net.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
Section 1: That the City Commission of the City of North Lauderdale, Florida, be and the same does hereby authorize the expenditure of not more than $50,000.00 for the purchase of an upgraded telephone system for the City from Digetel.net.
Section 2: That the funds for this purchase are allocated in budget line item 530-0801-519-64-10.
Section 3: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
