Subject:           Milli Dyer Public Safety Bldg. - Fire Station 34 Construction Update

The construction of new Fire Station 34 is progressing as scheduled and we are still anticipating an opening in March of 2008.  According to the latest status, the building foundation and slabs are completed and the walls are starting to go up, so the vertical visual progression is taking place.

Another phase of the project is the construction of off-site sewer and water projects, which the City is responsible for.

We are currently working with suppliers and contractors to plan for this off-site construction. In addition, we are working with Broward County to prepare an inter-local agreement to receive the reimbursement of approximately $150,000 of the nearly $175,000 of the anticipated costs from the County.

Due to time constraints, the staff is recommending that the Commission authorizes the City Manager to enter into various contracts to start the off site utility work and bring back the appropriate agenda items/documents to the Commission for ratification at a later date. We will also be presenting the inter-local agreement with Broward County for the reimbursement of funds to the City for Commission’s approval in the near future.

Unless there is any objection to staff’s request, we’ll be proceeding forward with this plan. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.
