The Parks and
Recreation Department is working on plans for North Lauderdale Days 2010. This year’s 47th Anniversary Event
is planned for the weekend of Friday, April 30th through Sunday, May
2, 2010. Although, we are only in the early
planning discussion stages right now, we can promise some new activities during
the months of April and May in celebration of our City’s Anniversary.
As in past
years, N.L. Days will feature 2 stages, (one on field 4 and one in the parking
lot). The event will feature musical
entertainment by both professional and amateur groups, school groups and some
community participation including a fireworks show on Saturday evening. In past years, the event was budgeted at
$58,000, however this year (like last year), the event’s
budget has been drastically reduced due to budget cuts. This year’s General Fund Contribution is only
$20,565.00 and the 171 Fund will contribute up to $18,000.00. In addition, the N.L.
Recreation Foundation will also donate funds. We will be sharing the final
plans for North Lauderdale Days 2010 with the Commission by early March.
One of the
main attractions of the event is the wide variety of music that is offered
throughout the weekend. For more than
eight years, the City has used Style Entertainment to provide music and sound
equipment during the event. Style
Entertainment is used throughout Broward County by various cities including
Margate, Coral Springs, Parkland, Coconut Creek, Tamarac, Miramar and
Sunrise. It is our intention to use
Style Entertainment again this year to provide musical entertainment and sound equipment
for North Lauderdale Days 2010 for an amount not to exceed $10,000.00.
As in past
years, the Department staff will be working with various groups during North
Lauderdale Days. These groups include
BSO, City’s Fire/Rescue, Multi-Cultural Committee, local Schools, City’s Parks
and Recreation Board and other interested resident groups within the City.
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Administration recommends Commission’s
consideration and approval of the following two resolutions:
1.
Resolution establishing North
Lauderdale Days 2010 as April 30th thru May 2nd, 2010.
2. Resolution
authorizing the City Manager to contract with Style Entertainment in an amount
not to exceed $10,000.00 for musical entertainment for North Lauderdale Days
2010.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING APRIL 30th
THRU MAY 2nd AS NORTH LAUDERDALE DAY (S) FOR THE YEAR 2010 IN THE
CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE; PROVIDING FOR COMPLIANCE WITH THE TERMS, CONDITIONS
AND PROVISIONS OF ORDINANCE NO. 81-3-409 WHICH DID CREATE AND ESTABLISH “NORTH
LAUDERDALE DAY” AS A DAY TO OCCUR AS A FESTIVE EVENT AND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,
North Lauderdale has established “North Lauderdale Days” by Ordinance, as a day
of festive events and anniversary celebration; and
WHEREAS,
Ordinance 81-3-409 provides that North Lauderdale Day shall occur on or before
May 30th of each year on a date and time established and adopted by
the City Commission of North Lauderdale by resolution; and
WHEREAS, this
City Commission has found and determined that April 30 thru May 2 of 2010, are
appropriate and proper days to hold North Lauderdale Day festivities.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:
Section
1: That
the City Commission publicly announces and decrees that April 30 and thru May 2
are hereby designated North Lauderdale Days for the year 2010 conforming to the
terms and provisions and conditions of Ordinance No. 81-3-409 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of North Lauderdale, Florida.
Section
2: That
the City Commission encourages and directs the Administration of the City of
North Lauderdale as well as all of the citizens and residents of the City of
North Lauderdale to take all appropriate steps and actions to make North
Lauderdale Day a successful festive and celebrated event in North Lauderdale.
Section
3: That
this resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

EXCEED $10,000.00 FOR MUSICAL ENTERTAINMENT AS PART OF NORTH LAUDERDALE DAYS 2010;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,
this
City Commission has found and determined that April 30 thru May 2 of 2010, are appropriate and proper days
to hold North Lauderdale Day festivities.
NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:
Section 1: The City Commission authorizes and directs
the City Manager to contract with Style Entertainment in an amount not to
exceed $10,000.00 for the provision of all musical entertainment for this event
with funds to be provided by the Parks and Recreation Department budget
0017072-548500.
Section 2: That this resolution shall take effect
immediately upon adoption.
