SUBJECT:     2009 North Lauderdale Days

The Parks and Recreation Department is working on plans for 2009 North Lauderdale Days.  This year’s 46th Anniversary event is planned for the weekend of Friday, May 1st through Saturday, May 2nd, 2009.  Although currently we are only in the early planning stages, we can promise some new fun activities in the month of April and May in celebration of our City’s Anniversary.

In past years the total event budget from the General Fund had been approximately $58,000. This year due to budget cuts as a result of the Property Tax Reform, the General Fund contribution for the event is only $18,000 and the Recreation 171 Fund will contribute an additional $18,000 for a total event budget of $36,000.00   Our goal is to hold the same type of an event as last year by featuring 2 stages, (one on field 4 and one in the parking lot).  The event will also feature musical entertainment by both professional and amateur groups, school groups and some community participation including a firework show on Saturday evening.  We look forward to sharing the final plans for North Lauderdale Days 2009 with the Commission by early March.

As in past years, the Department will be working with various groups to make North Lauderdale Days the best possible community event in the area.  These groups include BSO, City Fire/Rescue, Multi-Cultural Committee, local Schools, City’s Parks and Recreation Board and interested resident groups within the City.

RECOMMENDATION:
