SUBJECT:     Tennis and Basketball Courts Re-Surfacing Project

As part of City’s annual maintenance plan of Parks and Recreational Facilities, staff has established industry guidelines for the replacement and renovation of such high use items such as playgrounds, barbeque grills, tennis courts and basketball courts.  The industry standard for the re-surfacing and renovations of outdoor basketball and tennis courts is 5 years. Due to yearly maintenance of these hard surface courts, the City has been able to extend their life to approximately 7 years.

During the budget process, staff planned for and budgeted $49,000 for renovations and re-surfacing of various basketball and tennis courts throughout the City’s Park System.  These courts are extremely popular and receive a great deal of use, with Pompano Park Basketball Court being the busiest in the City.

Staff contacted the 2 leading court resurfacing vendors in the area and had each submit a quote for the job using recently awarded bids/jobs from some neighboring Cities.

Based upon the results of the quotes, McCourt North Corporation not only submitted the lowest bid, they also provide more coats of surfacing as compared to Fast Dry Courts.  McCourt North’s price is based on a recent bid awarded to them by the City of Coral Springs while Fast Dry Courts quote was based on a recent bid awarded to them by the City of North Miami Beach.

For the record, the City has used McCourt North for the past 20+ years to renovate and re-surface existing courts as well as surface new courts.  McCourt North is a worldwide company that has completed work for some of the largest Sporting Events including the Olympics. Their work is excellent and they have a reputation of standing behind their finished product.

Funding in the amount of $49,000 was budgeted for this project and is available in the Parks and Recreation Department Capital Budget Line items;  3077071-563100 – C0705;   3087001-563100 – C0804;   3087071-563100 – C0805.
