SUBJECT: Agreement with Rides Vendor for 2009 North Lauderdale Days

At the January 27, 2009 Commission Meeting, the City Commission authorized May 1^st and 2^nd as North Lauderdale Days. North Lauderdale Days has a total event budget of $18,000 from the General Fund and $18,000 from the Recreation 171 Fund to cover the cost of items such as musical entertainment, fireworks, rides, games and all other event attractions.

In an effort to eliminate some event costs in the City budget we’ve been exploring various options including contracting out the Rides and Games. In past years, the Department was renting various rides and games and paying our camp counselors to run/oversee them at a total cost of approximately $11,000.

Last year we contracted out the rides and games to Rides, Slides and Games at no cost to the City for the first time. This year, after numerous conversations with Rides, Slides, and Games Inc, we are proposing to allow them to set-up and run the rides and games again at no cost to the City. In return the vendor will sell tickets and wrist bands and provide the City with a percentage of the proceeds. We are also exploring the possibility of expanding the area for rides and games and to run the rides and games on Friday night as well as Saturday as a small carnival. The vendor will bring actual carnival rides and game booths to the event giving it a more carnival look. Rides, Slides and Games is a local business that has been supplying rides and games to the TAG Employee Party and the Broadview Pompano Park Homeowners Association Holiday Bazaar and have an excellent reputation.

With the approval of the Commission tonight, we will work with the City Attorney’s Office to develop an acceptable agreement for the City Manager to execute and enter into with Rides, Slides, and Games Inc. As part of our anticipated event review with the Commission in March, we will update you on the total savings generated by this agreement.

RECOMMENDATION:

The City Administration recommends Commission’s consideration and approval of the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an acceptable agreement with Rides, Slides and Games, Inc for 2009 North Lauderdale Day Rides and Games.

RESOLUTION NO.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN ACCEPTABLE AGREEMENT WITH RIDES, SLIDES AND GAMES, INC. FOR 2009 NORTH LAUDERDALE DAY RIDES AND GAMES AND, PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:

Section 1: That the City Commission does hereby approve and authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Rides, Slides and Games for 2009 North Lauderdale Day Rides and Games.

Section 2: City of North Lauderdale will bear no cost for said rides and games as part of North Lauderdale Days on Friday and Saturday, May 1^st and 2nd.

Section 3: Anticipated savings to the North Lauderdale Day Event budget will exceed $10,000.00

Section 4: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
