SUBJECT:                 Metro Broward Professional Firefighters (MBPFF) Collective Bargaining Agreement

Please be advised, the MBPFF contract was ratified by its membership on March 24, 2008 by a majority vote. Final version of this Agreement is available in the City Clerk’s office for review. Highlights of this bargaining agreement, which will assist in achieving the goal of parity among various employee groups include:

 

  • Random Drug Testing.
  • Salary Adjustment of 8% on April 3rd 2008, with Year 2 and 3 of the new contract tied to the City’s Comprehensive Pay and Classification Plan - No longevity or merit increases.
  • Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedics salary will be increased to $42,053.
  • Residency within the tri-county area.
  • City will provide all uniforms required (personal clothing allowance eliminated).
  • First grievance of a suspension of 24 hours or less within a one-year time period does not proceed to arbitration.
  • MBPFF inactive 401(a) plan will be closed in compliance with IRS guidelines.
  • Work week will be 48 hours with overtime being calculated after 53 hours physically worked. 
  • All grievances and/or unfair labor practices filed by the union since the expiration of the previous contract will be dropped.
  • 3-Year contract with a term of October 1, 2007 through September 30, 2010.

 

In addition, ratification of this contract by the Commission will assist in addressing some of the financial constrains associated with Property Tax Reform. 

 

Recommendation

 

The City Administration recommends the Commission’s approval of the attached resolution ratifying the Metro Broward Professional Firefighters (MBPFF) Collective Bargaining Agreement, effective upon the signatures by the City Manager and Professional Firefighters of North Lauderdale Representative.

            A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, RATIFYING THE METRO BROWARD PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS (MBPFF) COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT AND THEREBY ACCEPTING AND OTHERWISE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA, ON BEHALF OF SAID CITY, TO EXECUTE AND OTHERWISE ENTER INTO THAT SAID COLLECTIVELY BARGAINED AGREEMENT, BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE AND THE METRO BROWARD PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTRERS, LOCAL 3080, WHICH AGREEMENT SHALL BE EFFECTIVE UPON THE SIGNATURES BY THE CITY MANAGER AND PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS OF NORTH LAUDERDALE REPRESENTATIVE BEING AFFIXED THERETO; AND, PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF NORTH LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA:

 

Section 1:                     That the City Commission does hereby ratify the Collectively Bargained Agreement,, and thereby accepting said agreement and authorizing and directing the City Manager of the City of North Lauderdale, on behalf of the City to execute and otherwise enter into said ratified agreement by and between the City of North Lauderdale and the Metro Broward Professional Firefighters Local 3080.

 

Section 2:                     That the Agreement shall become effective upon the signing of the Agreement by the City Manager and the Professional Firefighters of North Lauderdale Representative.

 

Section 3:                     That this Resolution shall take effect upon adoption.

 

PASSED and ADOPTED by the City Commission of the City of North Lauderdale, Florida, this 27TH day of March, 2008.
