in North Lauderdale lives just minutes from the library. In
May 2006, the doors opened on a brand new $5.2 million state-of-the-art
library. This 20,000-square-foot facility is an eye-popping
improvement over the previous 3,200-square-foot facility.
Perhaps more important than the size is the improved central
location within the city. Now more users than ever can get
to the library by bike or on foot.
North Lauderdale’s library includes 70,000 items, but as a
branch of the Broward County library system, residents have
access to millions of volumes by ordering materials from throughout
the system. One of the most interesting features of the new
library is the art on the windows by Richard Heipp. It’s a
series of “Shadow Silhouettes” illustrating the fables and
myths of mankind.
