Richard
joined North Lauderdale in 1991 serving as Community Development
Director/Assistant City Manager for 9 years. He returned in
September 2004 as City Manager. He is the chief administrator
of North Lauderdale and the primary advisor to the City Commission
in issues of policy.
Richard guides the direction of all City
departments and operations. He appoints department directors,
oversees employee recruitment, submits the city’s annual budget,
and carries out policies and laws as directed by the City
Commission. Richard provides leadership with a work environment
that fosters creativity, innovation, thoughtful risk-taking
and employee recognition.
He is the recipient of seven Florida Redevelopment
Awards and his accomplishments have earned him national and
local media attention with articles about his work recently
appearing in Urban Land Magazine and in South Florida CEO
Magazine. Richard's marketing and tourism programs during
his four years as the City of Hollywood's Director of Community
Redevelopment resulted in Hollywood Beach being named one
of the "Top Ten Beaches" by Travelocity and AOL
as well as Netscape Travel, outranking other world-famous
beaches.
Richard stays true to a city's vision to
preserve the history, culture and architecture of the area
while enhancing its character with solid management, public
desired improvements, quality development, marketing and special
events.
Richard is active both civically and professionally,
He is a graduate of Leadership Broward XIV and recipient of
the Price/Waterhouse "Up and Comers" award for Government.
He is a valued board member of the Florida Redevelopment Association,
the Greater Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood
Business Council. Annually, he volunteers for the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation coordinating their signature fundraising
event and the Historical Museum of Southern Florida. He is
fluent in both English and Spanish and has been very helpful
to people who have arrived in the United States from other
countries. |
