| Code Compliance
|
How
our service is provided:
A citizen
can report a complaint by calling the Code Compliance Division
at (954)-724-0878. A staff member will take information regarding
the exact location and nature of the violation.
The
Code Compliance Officer assigned to the area will then conduct
an inspection of the property. If it is determined that a
violation exists, the Code Compliance Officer will issue a
courtesy warning notice. If you receive a warning notice:
Please
correct the violation/problem promptly. If you need additional
time to comply, please contact the Code Compliance Officer
at (954) 724-0878. Remember: You must obtain the proper permits that may be required
for some repairs from the Building/Permit Division on the
2nd floor of City Hall, Telephone: (954)-724-7069.
If
you are unwilling to take prompt action to correct the violations,
there are several possible consequences. If legal action becomes
necessary, you will be served a summons to appear at a hearing
before the Special Magistrate, Code Enforcement Board or in
County Court where, if you are found to be in violation of
one or more of the City ‘s Ordinances, a fine of up $250 per
day may be imposed. Overgrown
lawns and neglected properties not only deteriorate neighborhoods
but also invite criminal activity such as drug use, burglaries,
vandalism and illegal dumping. As
properties age, they require more attention and maintenance,
just like an old car. When too many properties are neglected
then entire neighborhoods begin to fail and, sooner or later,
regardless of where we live, we all pay the price through
higher taxes, higher crime rates, and undesirable living conditions.
In
order to preserve the quality of our neighborhoods, the Code
Compliance Division ensures compliance with the City’s ordinances
that require minimum maintenance standards for living/housing,
yards, parking, etc. Remember,
the Code Compliance staff are here to help. Working together,
we can prevent blight in our neighborhoods throughout the
City and enhance the quality of life in our City.
